Lithuania will discuss farmers’ access to innovation and technology
At the informal meeting of European Union agriculture ministers taking place in Dublin on September 8, Lithuania will emphasize that the adoption of new technologies and innovations could help stabilize the challenging situation in the livestock sector.
Insufficient profitability continues to pose challenges for Lithuanian livestock producers. In response, in 2026 the European Commission published the EU Livestock Strategy and the Protein Action Plan, which aim to strengthen the sector’s sustainability, resilience and appeal through innovative digital technologies and research. The plans also encourage greater use of the potential of protein crops and feed produced within the EU.
In Dublin, Lithuania will advocate that the adoption of technology and innovation could significantly improve the sector’s economic, social and environmental situation. However, this requires ensuring their practical application on farms, sufficient funding from the European Competitiveness Fund and targeted counseling and training for farmers.
